A Blue Family Christmas December 14, 2023

Welcome to A Blue Family Christmas!  Each year during the holiday season, Blue Thanksgiving sponsors officers and their families who are suffering financially due to catastrophic medical diagnosis, injury or life-altering events.  Working overtime and part-time jobs, has become an all too common necessity among our law enforcement personnel, and for officers who are unable to work not only their regular duties with the agencies where they serve, but their part time jobs, the financial difficulties can be overwhelming.  it is our goal to help those who are suffering with that lost income.  Every year, Blue Thanksgiving, Inc., helps officers and their families who are dealing with some pretty challenging things. Each year, funds raised during our Blue Family Christmas Campaign go to help these families, and we are proud to say that this marks our 5th annual holiday campaign.

Officer Kieon Winston started his career with the Cobb County Police Department in 2013. He also served in the National Guard from 2012 through 2018. Officer Winston has worked in several precincts to include Precinct 2, Precinct 4, and Precinct 5. In 2021, he joined the Cobb County Police Motors unit where he spends most of his days enforcing traffic. On September 21st, 2023, officer Winston was riding his motorcycle off-duty and was involved in an accident, resulting in major injuries. He was transported to the hospital where it was discovered that his pelvis bone was broken/fractured on the left side and shifted upwards from its correct location. He also tore his meniscus, ACL and MCL. Officer Winston had surgery the same day of the accident for the pelvis and will still need surgery for his knee. Due to this incident and his major medical injuries, he has depleted all his hours and is not expected to return to full-duty for a year.

Officer Kurt Hudson began his career with Cobb County PD in 2017 and has been at Precinct 2 since graduating from the police academy. He is currently a Field Training Officer with a passion for sharing his knowledge of the requirements of the job with others. He not only works hard as a police officer, he also works a part time job three nights a week. Ordinarily, when he's not working, you will find him at the gym, or spending time with his girlfriend, Haley, or with his family.  In August, Kurt was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He had surgery later that same month and he has been in cancer treatment at City of Hope in Newnan, for the past several months. Unfortunately it was determined that the cancer had spread to his lungs, spleen and lymph nodes. As a result it was necessary to put a stint in his kidney to allow it to drain properly. Even though the cancer had spread, it is still classified as testicular cancer, which is 99% treatable.  Kurt has completed two of the four cycles of chemo and, although he has had some setbacks, overall he is responding extremely well to the treatment. Altogether, he has been out of work since late August; however, doctors are hopeful he will be able to return to work by mid-January. As a result, Kurt remains optimistic and upbeat about his future.

This year's Anonymous Officer has suffered a catastrophic loss in the lives of this small family.  While we are honoring his privacy, we are asking to remember this hero and his small children whose lives are forever changed.

The Blue Family Christmas campaign culminates each year with a festive gala where officers and their supporters can come together for a great cause .  This exciting evening provides an opportunity to celebrate the holiday season together while raising awareness and financial support for our local Law Enforcement Officers. This year marks our fifth annual Blue Family Christmas and we are so very proud and grateful for the support shown by this community and local businesses toward all our officers and especially those whom we have sponsored in years past.

We hope you will join us in supporting our heroes again this year as we come together in what is expected to be our largest and most anticipated holiday gala ever!  Please secure your seat by registering for this event with a tax deductible donation.  If you would like to become one of our valued sponsors or donate to our silent auction, please reach out to us, or complete the form on our registration page.

Our silent auctions have always been a highlight of our annual Blue Family Christmas event and you will want to view all the incredible items that have been donated.  If you are unable to attend but would like to bid on items in our silent auction, please register your cell phone, so that you will be alerted when the auction opens or if you have been outbid by anyone!

We are thrilled to once again have Tito's return as the OFFICIAL VODKA of the 2023 Blue Family Christmas Gala and to tell you a little about their history! Tito Beveridge wasn't always known as "The Vodka Guy". Born and raised in San Antonio, Tito went to Vanderbilt for a year before returning to Texas to attend UT (University of Texas at Austin), where he graduated with degrees in geology and geophysics. After college he got into the oil and gas business. He did that in Texas, and then found himself down in Venezuela and Colombia running heli-portable dynamite seismic crews. He came back to Texas, again, and started a drilling company in Houston. Eventually he got "tired of chasing the buck", and decided to move to Austin. In Austin, Tito got into ground water geology, and then thought he would give the mortgage business a try. It was around this time, in '92 or '93, when he started making flavored vodka as gifts for friends. One night he was at a party and a stranger came up to him and said "Hey, you're the vodka guy",and he said "No, contraire, I am the mortgage guy.". But, that really got Tito thinking... When mortgage rates went up a couple points, he started going to liquor stores to ask the owners and managers if they would buy his flavored vodkas. They all turned him down saying, "No, go look at all the dust on the shoulders of those bottles there!". But then they told Tito that if he could make a vodka that was so smooth you could drink it straight then he might have something. So, naturally, Tito, who had never distilled anything in his life, asked them how one might do that. They said, "Well, I don't know, you're the guy who wants to get in the vodka business!".
